City of Amsterdam

LANCAR valorization partner Ruben Brave and coordinator Jean Wagemans are participating in the Academic Workshop on Disinformation organized by the City of Amsterdam. Together with scientific experts, civil servants of various departments, and representatives of other institutions, they discuss the impact of and possible solutions for the problem of disinformation.

ISOC NL / MMGA Working Group on Argumentation

In 2020, a collaboration was established with Internet Society Netherlands (ISOC NL) and Make Media Great Again (MMGA). The mission of these organizations is to improve the quality of information on the Internet. LANCAR valorization partner and ISOC NL president Ruben Brave, research affiliate Federica Russo, and coordinator Jean Wagemans are participating in the ISOC NL / MMGA Working Group on Argumentation to create tools and training programs aimed at helping people to enhance their argument-checking and critical thinking skills.

Science communication

Members of the LANCAR group regularly present their research and give lectures for a broader audience. Jean Wagemans serves as the Science Communication Coordinator of COST Action APPLY – European Network for Argumentation and Public Policy Analysis.

Workshop – Ruben Brave and Jean Wagemans participated in the fourth Academic Workshop on Disinformation organized by the City of Amsterdam that took place on October 26, 2022.

Guest Lecture – On May 23, 2022, the lecture event “From fact-checking to argument-checking” took place at Spui 25 in Amsterdam. José Plug, Ruben Brave, Federica Russo, and Jean Wagemans presented their research, and Ella van Vloten moderated the event.

Guest Lecture – On April 20, 2022, Jean Wagemans lectured on “Rhetoric and Argumentation” for the Moot Court of the Amsterdam Law Firm.

Guest Lecture – On February 17, 2022, Jean Wagemans lectured on “Research Projects on Argument-Checking” for the Department of Research & Statistics of the City of Amsterdam.

Discussion – On July 6, 2021, Fellowship Digital Europe organized a discussion on Argument-Checking and Hope-Based Communication with Andreea Belu (European Digital Rights), Ruben Brave (Internet Society Netherlands), and the fellows of the Digital Europe Fellowship. Guest Lecture – On June 30, 2021, Jean Wagemans gave a guest lecture on “Rhetoric and Argumentation” for the Moot Court of the Amsterdam Law Firm.

Webinar – The ISOC NL / MMGA Working Group on Argumentation organized a webinar on Argument-Checking with the support of the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) of the University of Amsterdam. The webinar, titled Information Pollution Defence, took place on Feb 28, 2021, and included contributions from Alexander Blom (ISOC NL), Ruben Brave (MMGA), Stefan Mol (UvA), Camilla Nieman (ISOC NL), Robert Overweg (MMGA), Richard Rogers (UvA), Federica Russo (UvA) and Jean Wagemans (UvA).
